其實，主角二十多歲才造訪的倫敦，才是新故鄉：他在BBC的Radio 3廣播，與俄國、澳國和世界各地的詩人神交；他在Tate 美術館受到Robert Motherwell的畫作 Homage to the Spanish Republic 24 衝擊 (查資料，畫題都是西班牙內戰的輓歌Elegy，而小說中說是”向其致敬”；他在某劇院看印度的電影如史詩….最重要的，他生平第一次受邀到鄰居家中受招待，竟然無力回請……
