precis 和rewrite man



上周討論陸以正先生說的：『往事不堪回首』 其中的一句話，謝謝老朋友指出一重要的字眼：precis writing，這是英國中學作文最重要的內容之一。（實際上，30-40年前英國電腦即可以用人工智能作這種功課（一本書或一篇論文，你可以規定要做出多少字的摘要）。2005年，他們更研發可以電腦閱作文、打分數……）。
然後rl指出以前報社rewrite man角色之重要。

「當時在韓國當翻譯官的有幾千人，得到自由勳章的，記憶中只有我一人，所以許多事情都是因緣湊巧。從韓國回來後，就到China News，當時China News還是油印的，1953一直到1956左右，在China News做編輯，每天早上拿當天的報紙，重要的新聞做摘譯，實在重要的事才會去現場採訪，當時大概95%的時間是在作編輯、翻譯(re-write)。 」

「現在說的編譯」，多指文書上摘要；陸先生的背景和作為、見識，或屬於比較「古意」。今天起介紹的『史景遷」，就是最好的另一re-write。
