Yitang "Tom" Zhang (Chinese: 张益唐; pinyin: Zhāng Yìtáng)[4] (born February 5, 1955)[5] is a Chinese-born American mathematician working in the area of number theory. While working for the University of New Hampshire as a lecturer, Zhang submitted an article to the Annals of Mathematics in 2013 which established the first finite bound on the least gap between consecutive primes that is attained infinitely often. This work led to a 2014 MacArthur award[6] and his appointment as a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.[7][8][9]
